There’s a corner of this reservoir that has a really intriguing arrangement of poles, almost paired up and forming a curve. I’ve not managed to find out whether this has a practical purpose or whether it’s a landscape art installation. Either way, I always enjoy seeing it and last Friday’s evening weather showed in a lovely light.

Following on from my post of bluebells, I thought I’d post another seasonal shot before the last of the cherry blossom disappears from our trees in this wet, blustery May. I’ve always loved the view of this church that’s located at the end of a terraced street, but the combination of the blossom and the way the trees lean in to form a natural archway made it even more special.

I’m enjoying seeing all the wonderful shots of bluebells at the moment, so I thought I’d head to a local woodland too in search of swathes of these charming flowers that momentarily turn the undergrowth a rich blue. Friday evening was possibly a bit early as they’re not quite in full bloom yet, but here are my favourite pics anyway. Maybe another trip in a few days again too . . . Oh, and a fern too, for good measure.

Looking on the map, the place I’m stood here is

Looking on the map, the place I’m stood here is the top of Rainsborrow Cove, between Yoke and Ill Bell on the western side of the Kentmere Horseshoe. It’s also the place where you get a fabulous view of the reservoir below. Despite the clouds, there was great visibility over the fells and summits - certainly perfect walking weather!

The Kentmere Horseshoe has got to be one of most rewarding Lakeland walks, especially when you turn around to see the fell summits you’ve already walked over. From here it’s just a small ascent to Thornthwaite Crag and more amazing views over to High Street and beyond.

My first and tentative trip back to the Lakes since October last year. Aiming to find a route that kept away from crowds in the usual places, we took a path around the north and east sides of Blencathra. Taken 9am- ish on a crisp sunny morning en-route to Bowscale Fell, this a view over to an impressive looking ridge up Bannerdale Crags.
