Sights from our first night safari at Mvuu Lodge, Liwonde. It was so phenomenal to see this male lion and a spotted eagle owl up close while probably both out hunting for food.

Night safari . . .
After travelling for almost 36 hours, we arrived at Thawali Wildlife Park in Malawi, straight onto a night drive through the scrub. So awesome to come across a daily group of lions at a watering hole - certainly beyond expectations for our first trip! .

Central Pier
I didn’t manage to visit the Blackpool illuminations last year so am keen not to miss this year’s show. I love night photography and a trip to see the lights is always a good evening out with a camera. I took this on Saturday, waiting to see one of the firework competition events the the town hosts every year. The Central Pier, with its fairground and ferris wheel, delimited by the Tower is one me of my favourite views. In fact, you can just see a hint of the crowds gathering for the pyrotechnic display in the reflections of the pier in the rivulets on the sand.

Translates to beauty . . .
A few years ago I came across carved stones placed in dry stone walls around Lancashire in places such Ribble Valley and Parlick Pike. It’s been a while since seeing another, but I was pleased to find one on a recent walk up Pendle Hill. Like this in Russian Cyrillic, all the stones contain a single word in a different language and script, but they all translate to the word ‘beauty’. I think this is such a lovely idea, but online searches have not revealed much about them. So, I’m left to regard them for their simplistic beauty, which is fine, and hope that there are still more for me to come across when I’m out walking my local hills.
I’ve combined my shot of the stone with two views of a lovely sinuous dry stone wall that @anotherfineday and I came across on the same walk.

Natural patterns . . .
Near to me there’s a particularly scenic woodland brook with a bridge and, out of sight from the water-side path, a couple of mills that have been recently converted into apartments, as a reminder of the area’s industrial past. It’s a place I walk a lot and have photographed many times too, but on a recent walk, where the light was especially lovely in the distance, I had the idea of creating a multiple exposure image of the view and this is the rather kaleidoscopic result.

Supporting Naomi Wood in her Gobbess performance at the Muni in Colne was the very talented poet and writer, Ajaz Qureshi (aka Sincere Intentions). His performance, called Groundling, was a beautiful narrative of love and tenderness. Last weekend I was lucky to catch the excellent one-woman show performed by Naomi Wood (aka Gobbess) at Colne’s Muni theatre. A talented story-teller and very adept acrobat having literally run away to join the circus, she draws from her own personal experience to find self-realisation and a life more meaningful than the daily corporate grind. She performs this wonderfully unique circus-inspired spoken word and poetry show again in the north west at Preston Fringe, so catch her there if you can!

Down in the Subway . . .
I’m taking part in a series of guided heritage walks in and around Bolton at the moment - actually back-marking and taking photos of the walking group for social media. Our recent town-centre route takes us through a subway that I photographed twice in the same direction, but angled differently to capture views of each wall. I really wanted to create an image that was quite edgy, so decided to combine them into a multiple exposure. I think I quite like the result.
