Northern Lights over Bolton . . .

The magical effects of the natural borealis have been recreated in the town as apart of the “Put big light on” event that runs until the 9th December. Created by Dan Acher, the installation has visited over 40 cities worldwide but now brings a wonderful, ever changing atmosphere to the Town Hall and Victoria Square.

Both sides of the moon . . .

A stunning set of light installations were launched last night in Bolton as a part of the “Put big light on” event that runs until the 9th December. This awesome scale model of the moon, created by Luke Jerram, takes pride of place in the newly refurbished Central Library.

After a postponement due to rain and high winds, @tovaah.uk and I lucked out on one of the best walking days last week. Starting out from the scenic Twisleton Scar End, with its sculptural wizened and wintery trees, to complete a loop that eventually took us over the top of Ingleborough itself, it was so good to be in the North Yorkshire Dales again!

Taken on my recent trip to the Scottish Highlands,

Taken on my recent trip to the Scottish Highlands, this mighty looking hill is called Sgurr na Lapaich and at 1,036m, towers over the loch and forests of Glen Affric. In fact there’s another with exactly the same name just a little further north, and while this is the lower of the two, both are munros. We didn’t walk up on this occasion but it looks perfectly do-able as a day walk, so another time, maybe!

Knife Angel Tribute event . . .
The darkly poignant Knife Angel Sculpture is resident in Bolton for the whole of November. I was really honoured to be invited along to take photos at an event with Andrew Farnworth’s Transforming Lives team as a tribute to the message that this amazing piece of art conveys. Starting with a gym session followed by frank talks from a couple of group members who’ve actually been victims of knife crime, then a visit to the Angel itself, before finally rounding off the event with a delicious chippy lunch - it was a hugely memorable day!

Thanks so much to Andy and everyone at Transforming Lives for letting me be a part of your day!

Transforming Lives is an activity group that supports anyone who may be finding life difficult.
This includes homeless people, ex- prisoners and former drug users, as well as those in rehab, unemployed or just want a safe space.

A couple of rainy walking days netted us not only a bagful of chanterelle mushrooms (later made into a delicious risotto), we also came across this very large fly agaric mushroom. Found alongside a quiet, shady path through the Culbin Forest, on the Moray Firth.

Staying just west of Inverness, I was treated to a tour of the beautifully scenic Glen Affric. Previous heavy rainfall meant the rivers were in full flow, but that still didn’t prepare me for the awesome sight of Plodda Falls! The falls are 46 m high and can be found on a picturesque burn called Allt na Bodachan.

I’ve been a bit distracted away from photography and Instagram for the last couple of months, but I did have a wonderful trip to the Scottish Highlands at the start of October. The autumn colours were just coming into their own, so I thought I should post some of the shots I took then, before the season is well & truly over.
This is An Lochan Uaine or the ‘wee green loch’ that’s reached from a woodland path in the forest of Glen More. We were en-route to Bynack More, a Munro of 1090m with some interesting natural stone obelisks at the summit, but I couldn’t resist taking a shot of these trees and their reflections.
