A bit about me . . .

Julia at Dean Mills Reservoir

Since moving back north and setting down roots in Bolton, I realise I’ve fallen prey to the magnetic attraction of the West Pennine Moors. Whether its walking up to the circular shelter on Great Hill, cycling out to more distant reservoirs or seeking out an ideal spot to take a shot of a sunset behind the Winter Hill masts, I’m hooked!

It’s not just the stark beauty though that attracts me to the moors. Growing up in a small mill town north-west of where I live now, in the Fylde area of Lancashire, I feel a deep affinity with the faded industrial past of Bolton and its surrounding areas, littered as it abundantly is with relics from more prosperous times at the height of the cotton industry.

So, for me, this site is really an account of my interest and fascination with both the moors and Bolton’s rich history whilst weaving in my passion for photography.

Having said that, my posts may wander further afield from time to time as Bolton is equally interesting to me for its location, with easy access to mountains and fells in all directions where I also love spending my time – from the Lakes further north, to the Yorkshire Moors, round to the Peak District and over to Snowdonia in Wales, its ideal!

I do hope you enjoy reading my posts. If you’d like to comment and send your thoughts, or even if you’d like to collaborate on a project, please just drop me note!
