I have to say I’m still in two minds about the use of bright lights to spot animals while out on a night safari, but the animals did seem unconcerned by them. The shadows cast by these lions are quite striking.

Last night in Malawi . . .
Before heading back to the UK we stayed overnight in the quiet comfort of the Kumbali Lodge - located in a country setting, you’d never believe you’re in the middle of a wildlife park only 40 minutes or so away from the capital’s international airport.
I’ve already posted shots of the zebras that we saw here, courtesy of the owner, who drove us out to a place where he’d seen them earlier. He also took us on a tour of the estate’s banana plantation, a recent diversification for him, as a plan to weather the tourism downturn during lockdown. Seems to have worked well!

Enchanting woodland walks . . .
I’m just home from a short break in the very scenic Cotswolds. The local must-see attractions for us were the Neolithic Rollright Stones, an important collection of Bronze Age monuments comprising an intact stone circle, a large standing stone and a dolmen, so we plotted out a circular walk starting from a nearby village. The image here though was taken en-route to the stones. I loved the almost tear-drop shape created by the tall overhanging hedgerows that looked especially lovely in autumn colours - it had an almost magical quality complementing the ancient spiritual vibes of the stones.

So, let’s stick with waterfalls again today. This is another of my favourite locations, but these falls are the result of quarrying. This brook starts from Great Hill, a local landmark and ends up in the picture-perfect hamlet of White Coppice.
