A couple more shots from the National Trust Castlefield Viaduct garden. I just love this orange burgundy colour scheme created by a spectacular Fritillaria imperialis against the rusty backdrop of the wall behind. These flowers complement the pastels of the daffodils (posted yesterday) so well!

Apricot delight . . .
Last week I made an impromptu visit to the National Trust Castlefield Viaduct garden. I was delighted to find that it’s currently in bloom with an array of different types of daffodils and, unusually most of them with gorgeous apricot-coloured trumpets. I think some may be the Apricot Whirl variety? My visit was a bit late in the day so I’ll definitely go again as I’m intrigued to see how this lovely unique garden develops over the summer.

52 Frames week 12: Shallow Depth Of Field . . .
“ Naturally Vitalising ”
I’d spent some time in Manchester on Friday and taken a few shots that I thought would be decent candidates for this week’s challenge, but then I unexpectedly came across a shop selling gent’s grooming products with a traditional window display. So, this is the one I’ve submitted, shot through the shop window, but I think the soft reflections add to interest to the image. I also like how the lights in the shop create bokeh patterns in the background.
I admit, it took me ages to finalise my selection as I really like the second photo too (please swipe). This is taken from the National Trust garden on a section of Castlefield Viaduct. The reason I didn’t select this for the challenge is I felt my eye was drawn to the blurry train rather than the in-focus girder.
Did I make the right choice?

Featured in Bolton Town of Culture . . .
As a member of Live from Worktown, an arts, culture and heritage group in Bolton, I’ve been busy these last few months working on our projects to celebrate Bolton’s year as the Greater Manchester Town of Culture.
A few of my images have been used to promote our activities and I’m pleased that another, along with a piece of writing, has been included in Bolton Observed, our anthology published to coincide with the town’s celebrations.
1 - Karaoke at the Three Crowns, used to promote the Bolton Observed call-out for writing and included on the back page of the anthology, Bolton Observed.
2 - Pantomime Shed - illustrating a piece of writing entitled “Backstreet Pantomime” in the Bolton Observed anthology.
3 - Cigarette Tunnel - used to promote our photography competition, Our Cultural Landscapes. Judged by acclaimed local photographer @dontongephoto, the top twenty images were used to illustrate the Bolton Observed Anthology.

Both edges . . .
I’m finally catching up with myself here as this is now a shot from Wednesday’s walk with @tovaah.uk on a fabulous route taking in Helvellyn, Grisedale Tarn and St Sunday Crag. It’s the first time I’ve ascended Swirral Edge, which turned out to be an excellent scramble and gives the best views of both Helvellyn’s edges as well as an unobscured view of Red Tarn.

Room with a view . . .
After Angle Tarn, we descended via a track back to Hartsop, our starting point. There was just something about this ruined farm building, on its own in a walled field and a rather elegant tree just beyond. I took shots from a few different perspectives, but this is the arrangement I like best, with the tree aligned with what would have been a window in the original building and between the fells of the Hardknott Pass in the distance.

52 Frames week 11: Egg! . . .
“ Its all in the timing ”
The secret to a good boiled egg is cooking it for the right amount of time, so I felt an egg timer and spoon would be the right props in a minimal shot of an egg. I must admit that I’m now wondering whether I should have placed the timer behind the spoon handle to avoid the distortion or whether that imperfection adds something to the image? Please do let me know what you think!

High Street views . . .
This time last week I was heading up to the Lakes to meet up with @tovaah.uk for a walk up to High Street from Hartsop via Thornthwaite Crag and Angle Tarn. We were so lucky to have such glorious weather and, even though clear blues skies don’t really make good photos, I couldn’t resist taking the panoramic view over to the Helvellyn range from High Street.

I’m delighted to have a photo selected as part of the @britishculturearchive Documenting your Community exhibition that launched last night in the Bolton Library and Museum gallery space. Featuring iconic archive documentary images m from @dontongephoto of Bolton as well as contemporary images from other local photographers, it’s a fascinating insight into Bolton life. The last of my ICM shots from my rainy photo walk in the Cairngorms and one of the last of the day as the rain had started to get much worse. This is taken from a logging track over the forest towards Loch Morlich, with the Cairngorm plateau as the final back drop. This is a composite of two ICM shots.
